Too many times have we heard complaints from friends and family about their bone breaks and the grueling casting process that comes shortly after. It’s plain and simple: traditional fiberglass and plaster casts lack comfort, breathability, functionality, and waterproof capabilities. No one enjoys wrapping and duct taping a grocery bag around their cast every time they need to shower. Casts that are available today are difficult, but why? Bone healing has been around for a much longer time than the “cast”, so how is it that the casting process fails to meet basic user needs? It’s because the current design only prioritizes structural rigidity and overall protectiveness. That’s why we are developing ModCast: a cast alternative that fills the gap between cast requirements and user needs. Our goal is to make the bone healing process as smooth and streamlined as possible. We are striving for a simple design that will allow users to do more in their day to day activities without the constant hassle. In order to meet the needs of both doctors and people, our ModCast design is adjustable, protective, breathable, waterproof, and comfortable.
